Google Made Changes to GMB Listings With Distance-Based Service Areas

Google applied changes to GMB Listings With Distance-Based Service Areas. This was not the sudden change, Google has been in the process of phasing out distance-based service areas since last year.

By this update, service-area businesses that currently based on a distance will be automatically converted to the closest named areas.

Manager of GMB listing can now provide a new service area based on city, ZIP code, or other areas.

This change is good for businesses that do not serve customers at their physical location. But from this change Google ensure that your listing still shows up in the area where you serve customers.

Google Makes Big Change to Nofollow, Introduces 2 New Link Attributes

Google announced the nofollow link attribute and introduced additional attributes to help Google understand the nature of links. Google also gave an updated statement on the use of the nofollow attribute.

Google released two new link attributes.

These attributes are ‘sponsored’ and ‘ugc’.

Google Nofollow Attribute Update

Previously nofollow links were treated as a directive. After this update, for ranking purposes, Google is treating nofollow as a hint.

Google said :

All the link attributes — sponsored, UGC and nofollow — are treated as hints about which links to consider or exclude within Search.
We’ll use these hints — along with other signals — as a way to better understand how to appropriately analyze and use links within our systems.”

Google will decide whether to use the link for ranking purposes or not. This change impacts on-page SEO, content marketing, link building and link spam.

Google announced that the average position metric is getting removed from Google Ads starting the week of September 30.

Since February Google had plans to remove the average position metric, but we didn’t have an exact date until now.

“starting” September 30, Average position metric will be gradually removed from peoples’ accounts, by this following features will also be disabled:

1. Rules using average position
2. Custom columns using average position
3. Saved reports that filter on average position
4. Saved filters with average position

At the place of average position now Google introducing two new metrics that provide a clearer view of where ads actually appear in a SERP.

Those metrics include absolute top impression and top impression.

Absolute top refers to the very first position in SERP, while a top impression refers to any position within the top set of paid listings.
